Matthew Davie, President and CEO

Matthew is Whole Travel’s founding CEO and focuses on driving company strategy. While studying for his PhD at Stanford University, Matthew met and worked with two other students to develop and launch Whole Travel. Around the office, you’ll probably find Matthew chatting with one of our web developers about a new search feature or researching an amazing eco-lodge in one of the most remote corners of the planet. Prior to co-founding Whole Travel, Matthew was already focused on sustainability - he developed a technology to treat contaminated drinking water when he was a graduate student. He published multiple papers and presented at various conferences around the world about this research. His passion for preserving the world’s environment and cultures runs throughout his life, and you’ll likely find him swimming, biking or running around the Bay Area when he’s not in the office.

Matthew holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree from UC Davis.

Eliot Terborgh, CFO

Eliot started as one of Whole Travel’s academic advisors at Stanford, where he has been consulting professor since 2005. He is a seasoned entrepreneur with a strong background in financial management for technology companies, with broad marketing, financial and general management experience in both domestic and international markets. Prior to joining Whole Travel, Eliot held several senior positions at successful technology startups. Most recently, he served as CFO and board member for Wireless Security Corporation (acquired by McAfee). He enjoys escaping frequently to Tahoe to enjoy the outdoors and a round of golf.

Eliot holds an MBA from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Colby College.

William Smith, Operations & Finance Guru

William joined Whole Travel after spending time as an investment banker. He now focuses his efforts on strategy and keeping our globe-trotting operations under control and aligned in the right direction. Prior to Whole Travel, William was an investment banker in San Francisco & New York, focusing on software and internet companies. He has always enjoyed camping, fishing and soccer but more recently took up triathlon.

William holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations with a concentration in economics from Stanford.
